Secret Jails in China

Seeking justice, Chinese land in secret jails - International Herald Tribune

Interesting how a form of capitalism is used to reduce petitions (rewarding people who prevent petitioners through kidnapping them).

With the Olympics my opinion is China could get away with this without danger of civil unrest. The power of the cell phone video to capture images I would hope will reduce the secret jails soon. I see petitions as a way to allow people in China to voice their frustration in a peaceful way, and stopping that will just worsen the problem.
