The typical Chinese textbook teaches Chinese characters based on the characters popularity. What was missing from the article is which is better for learning from a system, Traditional or Simplified Chinese Characters. Feedback I have heard is Traditional Characters have more of a System to the strokes, where some of that was lost in Simplified Chinese - this was per a Chinese teacher who hates Simplified Characters. Of course the counter argument is Simplified has less strokes, therefore it's easier to learn.
