Qing Ming Festival
Living in a Chinese Community, we often experience many colorful
and eventful festivals. One particular festival that is held during the last
two weeks of the vernal equinox is the Qing Ming Festival or
Tomb Sweeping Day. As the name connotes, it is a day in where we honor our dearly
departed and ancestors by visiting, paying respect and cleaning their graves.
We sometimes offer food and burn money so our ancestors may be able to use
these in the afterlife.

But this festival doesn’t only honor our dead, it also
celebrates life. Many Chinese mark this day by planning fun outdoor activities
like flying kites of all shapes and sizes.
