Bullying Impacts
I am surprised that bullying could have an impact even 40 years later. Article is so so, and basically notes there is a problem.
Childhood bullying can lead to suicide even 40 years later: Devastating effects can last well into middle age, researchers find - Daily Mail
My guess:
Bullying has caused a type of PTSD. PTSD is where the mind is focused on something negative.
One way is when your body is in a constant state of fight or flight. When you were in danger of being eaten by a saber tooth tiger, your body shuts down everything, except what is necessary to get away. This includes the ability to control your emotion, reproductive, and digestive systems. On the Savannah, this only lasted a couple of minutes. Now, people are living in a long term stressful environment. And when your in combat, you get trained to be in a constant state of arousal.
The real question is how do you solve the challenge of PTSD? How do you retrain the mind so your mind is not always in a state of heightened awareness? How do you make it so a mind can handle more stress? How do you make it so a person has more emotional resilience?
