Chinese Valentine's Day 2013: August 13, 2013
Happy Chinese Valentine's Day!
August 13, 2013 is this year's Chinese Valentine's Day. It's a great day to teach your kids about the Chinese Valentine's day celebration. This Chinese festival is also called Qixi Festival or Qipao Festival.
This day marks the Chinese legendary story where the young couple, cowherd and weaver girl meets in the sky to celebrate their love for each other. Their love were forbidden and to separate them, both were exiled to opposite directions of the Universe but once a year, the magpies who took pity on them forms a bridge between two Universe so the cowhere and the weaver girl could meet. This falls on the seventh night of the seventh moon which coined the term Double Seventh Festival.
Read more in details the story of the Cowherd and the Weaver girl here.

College Debt - Value Varies
Great article! A point not mentioned, was about 50% of people who start college, do not finish. The completion rate depends on the college. A key point is the person going to college needs to know why they are going. To just get a college degree, for most people, is not a good answer.
For some, college not worth the debt: Column - USA Today Labels: college, college admissions
Lenovo Laptop Hinge Issues
I bought some Lenevo Laptops for my employees, but they seem to have a hinge issue. It's a shame, since I have such great memories of a ThinkPad that is super heavy duty. The hinge issue looks like a design defect with too much stress being put on 1 screw located near the left hinge.
The laptop in question is only a couple of months old. I have owned / used laptops for over 15 years, and I have never seen this type of issue. I have probably had at least 10 laptops.
Anyway, Lenovo Tech Support's answer is they will fix it, but if there is any evidence of dropping they will charge you.
So should I try that, or get it fixed by a local repair place for around $100? And the question is how long will it take Lenovo to repair. Labels: lenovo, made in china
Learning Chinese Books & Chinese Reading Materials
School days are coming and you must be in the look out for effective and helpful learning Chinese books- textbooks, workbooks, story books and so on to help your child master a second language.
You can be one of the two types of parents right now. Either you know what your child needs (based on the school curriculum) or you have absolutely no idea. Either way, I can definitely help you. I've been on this road many times and I know what Chinese books fit what age.
I've categorized the Chinese textbooks and resources that I sell at www.childbook.com according to age for easy access.
For 0-2 years old, Chinese learning materials that I can suggest are as follows:
Mandy and Pandy book series
Guess How Much I Love You
I Love You like Crazy Cakes
Elmer's Colors
For 3-5 years old, I can suggest the following Chinese reading materials:
